Assistant Professor, CLIQIC Lead Physician
UNC Chapel Hill
Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Currently, I am an Assistant Professor of Hospital Medicine at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC, heading up the Central Line Insertion Quality Improvement Consortium (CLIQIC), initially formed in 2014 after a multidepartment M&M due to a spike in central line insertion complications. Spurring development of ‘1) simulation training of all interns for central line insertion, 2) all-inclusive central line kit, 3) central line checklist, 4) Medicine Procedure Service, 5) Central Venous Access Device Liaisons. CLIQIC is a group of dedicated clinicians from Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine & Family Medicine. A special thanks to prior surgical resident Joanna Grudziak, who initially headed up a 2014 Institute of Hospital Quality Improvement (IHQI) project, which CLIQIC has now sustained and grown for 11 years. This year, we trained 140 interns in one week in June 2025. We look towards continued improvement and expansion of our program.
