Mary Heitschmidt’s PhD, APRN, CCRN-K, FAHA background in oncology, pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, congenital cardiology, and her role as an Advanced Practice Nurse has allowed her to collaborate at various levels of human and animal, drug, and device research. Dr. Heitschmidt has published multiple manuscripts related to her work, presented nationally and internationally, and is an invited reviewer for many journals. Some service activities include being an appointed member of: Sigma Research & Scholarship Advisory Council; American Heart Association (AHA) Illinois Advocacy committee; the Rush University Medical Center Institutional Review Board (IRB), and a Fellow in the Institute of Medicine Chicago. Currently, as Director of Clinical Research in the Rush System of Health, Director of the Center for Clinical Research and Scholarship and Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing at Rush, Dr. Heitschmidt works with multidisciplinary research teams to improve patient care outcomes.
