Skin impairments are commonly associated with central venous access devices (CVADs), but accurate identification and classification of these complications can be challenging due to complex clinical presentations, clinician uncertainty, and inconsistent definitions. Proper assessment of CVAD-associated skin impairments (CASI) is crucial, as diagnostic confusion can delay appropriate treatment and compromise patient care. The clinical presentation of CASI is often unclear, with multiple skin impairments of varying causes coexisting. Therefore, developing valid and reliable CASI definitions is essential for accurate assessment and differentiation. In this session, we will guide the audience through the rigorous process of creating and validating an evidence-based skin impairment tool. This presentation provides valuable insights for clinicians and researchers interested in tool development and offers an overview of the tool's components.
Learning Objectives:
Highlight the challenges in assessing and accurately diagnosing CASI.
Describe the development and validation process of the CASI classification tool.
Explore the tool's implications and identify potential areas for future research.
