Suboptimal PIV insertion and care in emergency departments (ED) significantly impact patient care and experience. In 2021, the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care introduced the first national Clinical Care Standard for PIVC care. Our research found that many ED clinicians lack awareness of this standard and often fail to comply, but the underlying reasons remain unclear. This session will identify key factors affecting clinicians' adherence and offer strategies to improve compliance. With the AVA introducing the first Standard of Care for PIV in 2024, this presentation offers valuable insights for U.S. audiences to develop effective strategies and interventions based on lessons from Australia.
